Problem After A Reboot

After a reboot I cannot get my sound to work at all. I have been into the control panel and it says no device found. I cannot even get into the volume controls to check them. I am running Windows XP. Any help greatly appreciated.

hover your curser over 'computer'
right click
properties
device manager
sound video and games controllers
driver
update driver

Check the device manager for unrecognised items.. and also goto your computer manufacturers website, download the audio drivers for your computer and install them.
