in car adverts, why do they use reg plates such as nwn 388??

So that if the ad is still being shown a year or two from now, you won't look at the car with its "old" registration plates and decide not to buy it. nwn 388, for example, doesn't date the car.

Also it means they can show the advert in different locations such as Europe etc.
