Is it always the transfer of the same tune that causes it to stop responding?

no. i've tried different albums and it stops after one
Is there definitely sufficient space on the phone...?

i've got an 8gb SD card and there's 4gb left. i'm only adding an album's worth of mp3s so there is sufficient space
i've also just looked on the phone's settings to see if there is anything i've missed doing to accept mp3s but everything is ok
Hmm, OK. At this point, I'm running out of options. Try rebooting the PC and switching the phone completely off and back on again. Check that the cable is securely inserted at both ends. Have you checked for an update to WinAMP though, IIRC, it checks for that every time it's launched...

just restarted computer and phone....transfers get to 11% like before then stops.

there is a door in my flat that needs wedging open so i'll think i'll just use the computer for that!

cheers for the help
Presumably you've tried to use Sony's own software...?

Are you sure you are transferring them to the memory card and not the internal memory on the phone? try removing the memory card and start the transfer again, if you get the same results (stopping at 11%) then it's the internal memory getting full.
