I'm still wondering quite why linger and finger DON'T rhyme with minger........?

minger = ming - er
linger = lin - ger
finger = fing - ger

hence no rhyme

In my part of the world the 'g' is always 'hard'..........

In words like minger, singer, winger etc, the 'g' is not vocalised i.e. SING-er, MING-er

However, in words like linger and finger, the 'g' is vocalised i.e. LING-ger, FING-ger
