'Failcake' seems to me to be a southern expression and one probably used most in independent girls' schools.
I tested the word on my class of working class Yorkshire kids, mainly teenage boys, and got nothing but blank looks. However when I described some practical joke that went wrong as an 'Epic Fail' they all agreed.
