He claims a cd he has been playing for months has suddenly wiped itself blank.

He played the cd regularly then all off a sudden it stopped playing, the cd player did not recognise it.

He decided to re-burn it and on the burner also says there are no tracks on the cd!!!

Is this possible????

Yes.
...to the ''is this possible?'' part ... not the ''is my hubby going mad?'' part, lol

I am laughing too!
At all parts.
lol naz.
Unlike a data CD, an audio CD isn't really made up of individual files. It's just one big file which holds several different tracks. (It's a bit similar to writing several short stories but putting them all into different chapters of a single Word file, which you then burn onto a disk. There's only a single file but inside it are several different stories/tracks).

So if that single file become damaged in any way, the whole CD (rather than any single track) will become unplayable.

Also, unlike good old-fashioned vinyl, the information on a CD is read starting from the middle, working outwards. A small scratch, near to the centre of the CD, can make the initial data (which tells the CD player or CD what's on it) inaccessible. Try cleaning the disk, using an in-and-out (rather than round-and-round) motion as you wipe the surface.

So your hubby's probably not really going mad, but keep the strait jacket handy, just in case!

LOL too!!
Oops!

The final 'CD', in my post, should have been 'PC' (And I've only just opened the first can. Honest!)

I will let you off Chris!
Lol.
Not sure if that's right Buenchico.

I put a music CD into the computer here to make sure and can see all the individual song files and can drag individual tracks to my hard drive or iTunes. So, not one big file on the CD but one file for each track.

Doesn't help the OP though whose hubby is obviously going a bit mad!
