I had an optitians appointment booked with a well known high street chain for next Wednesday but after being invited away the following weekend I thought that I would like new glasses for this so rang the branch to change my appoinment to today (Thursday the week before) so that they I could get my glasses in time.
Along I went today only to be told that my appoinment was not until next Wednesday (they hadn't changed my appoinment) and the earliest they could fit me in before that day was next Monday which I have accepted.

Would I be within my rights to demand that my glasses be ready by the Saturday (giving them 6 days) as it is their fault and I had left plenty of time to get the glases prepared?

UNlikely to be within your rights, however, if you politely ask them if it would be at all possible to have your glasses ready by Saturday you might get a better response.
Did you go to Specsavers? I always go to an independent Optician which are often found in little towns. I always get a better eye test and treated better and they always seen to take time out and have also changed my appointments with no problem. It may be dearer by always a better service!
had you told them when you changed the appointment that you need the glasses for your holiday?
it doesn't make any difference - you cant demand in law that a certain service is provided for you at a certain time unless you have a contract. If the glasses are tghat important to you that you are looking art legal options of how to get them, why don't you go to vision express - they do them in an hour
for future reference, you can get a half price eye test voucher online from dolland and aitchison (so it costs £13.75) and the use your prescription to buy glasses on line. i went to eye experts and got a great pair for £18.95 with anti-reflective, scratch resistant and thin lenses instead of paying the £159 i was quoted in the shp. online you can get any sort of glasses that you would get from any dispensing optician, but for a fraction of the price. i would strongly recommend anyone doing it next time round - simples! x
I read the other day that TESCO are scrapping the charge of eye tests in their 131 opticians!
specsavers can have glasses ready the same day.
as sara says you can get your glasses the same day at specsavers but only if the are plain lenses, if you have bifocals, or photo-chromatic or any other specials you have to wait
dont use tesco opticians even with free eye test they are crap!! they did an eye test on me and gave me an incorrect prescription then got nasty when i said i couldnt see out of them!!! i had another eye test in same store where they realised their mistake and it then took over 3 weeks for the glasses to come back to which i still dont feel they right.
in answer to an earlier dont use tesco opticians they are crap!! totally screwed my order up and gave me an incorrect prescription then got nasty and told me i had to wear them for a weel when i couldnt see out of them!!!! nearly 7 weeks after ordering my glasses i finally got them and they still dont feel right but after the attitude ive had from them ive given up and written to their head office
