Where could you simply never live ?

It could be an area (eg. "the South")

It could be a particular county.

It could be a "distance from" (eg. "more than 50 miles from London")

It could be a "type" of place "(eg "in a city")

So where could you never live ?

So right, my nephew was knifed across his face in a pub in Glasgow, just for being English.
Where anyone overlooks my home
In a town/city
In a flat
In America
In Australia
In fact never outside Europe
In the West Country
In a new house
In a bungalow (but I may have to)
Where I don't have a very private garden
I would not want to go back to London, so I won't be seeing you Chuck, as I live in Milton Keynes. I would prefer to live somewhere a little smaller though

Grimsby.

I lived there for three years. It's the most introverted place i have ever been. Almost everyone was born and brought up in Grimsby, everyone knows everyone else, very few people ever leave Grimsby and very few people move in. Grimsby people really don't like southerners and I was often referred to as a 'foreigner' and 'f--king southerner'. I was also often berated for the poverty with comments such as 'you southerners keep all the money and give none to us'.

The greatest irony was that I lived abroad until I was 12. We moved around several Asian countries and I didn't live in the UK until I was 12. I've also spent most of my life travelling. Yet Grimsby is the only place in the world I've been called a 'foreigner' and felt intimidated and threatened for being who I am!

The only other place I could never live is Milton Keynes. I'm from Aylesbury and I remember that whole area of north Bucks being beautiful and peaceful countryside consisting of little villages, open fields and winding lanes. MK is now a concrete monstrosity that's been plonked over that beautiful countryside. The place has no culture, character or history and everything is 'in your face' entertainment such as Bowl in the Dark tenpin, multiplex cinemas, the Skidome etc.

The last time I visited MK was in 1999 and my last sight was in my mirror as I drove back to Winslow. I decided at that point that I would never visit the dump again - and I've never set foot in MK since.
We lived in MK for three years (but it was a while ago), it's a bit souless but there is loads going on (especially now). Not really a community though. We left Aylesbury nearly four years ago and now live just outside Hereford. I found it really difficult to slow down here (because it is quite sleepy) but now I wouldn't dream of going back (although that might be more to do with the fact that I worked full-time and I don't work at all now).
I couldn't live in London or any large city.......York is small enough but I've seen my ideal house on Dartmoor.
The grass is alwasy greener it seems.

I would love to live somewhere with that degree od history Craft. I like York anyway and I love history. I know it's a bit different when you do live ther though.

Hi Sherrardk,

Well done for upping and leaving! We've got that way with Aylesbury now but there's a lot of support for my wife and I here so that's why we are still here. Hope to go somewhere else soon though, perhaps Bournemouth where my family are.
Sorry for the spellings - not checking the post!

*always, of, there, my wife and me.
In London
Anywhere but Wales...
Away from the Sea...
In the City...
I would like to live somewhere historic too, maybe Bath or Canterbury, failing that York is only an hours ride away from where I live now.
Hi Andyvon, my husband was in Aylesbury in the last year or so and he says it has changed loads. I miss our house (Manor Park) but we decided to change our lives (drastically) and I do like it round here (though the choice in the supermarkets, etc is a bit limited compared to MK and Aylesbury). Good thing that you can shop online or Christmas would have been rubbish. Hope you get to move to Bournemouth, big change but change is good.
My daughter lives near Milton Keynes, she moved from the little village in the middle of nowhere, to a little village on the outskirts, she works in Aylesbury atm. Don't think she will ever come back up north.
It has changed massively Sherrard - and it really isn't for the better. You couldn't get more Home Counties than Aylesbury several years ago and the town was very wealthy. I owned a chauffeur company here (remember the white Mercs?) and we were always busy working for the companies and private individuals. There's nothing like that here now. You probably know what I mean from what your husband told you.

I will say the supermarkets are good though. I usually do our shopping at about 3am as that's often the only time I get with various things. I go to Tescos and get all our groceries, clothes etc at that time. However, all the little shops have gone and the town centre is almost barren now.
I'm a townie. I like the country for visiting but that's all. I actually live in Bristol which is a city but I couldn't put I am a cityie, it didn't look quite right.
i could never live in the deep south in America to redneck for my likeing
