for help with the Telegraph cryptic crossword, what does he mean by CHARADE please (used 3 times in yesterday’s puzzle 26470)
11a Deep regret about short mouthful (7):- a charade of a prefix meaning about and a small amount of food without (short) its final L.
23a Hard on journalist that’s remained suspended (7): - the definition is remained suspended. It’s a charade of H(ard) (a classification of pencils), a synonym for on and the usual abbreviation for a senior journalist.
27a Pale china stopper (6):- a charade of what china means in Cockney rhyming slang (“china plate”) and a stopper or cover for a container produces an adjective meaning pale or anaemic.

No idea what he means by charade in this context. I would have said 'combination' in each case.

Thanks tonyp17; I had not discovered the glossary section, but like mike11111, I think it is a rather curious choice of word.
