which blank dvd disc?

Which blank dvd disc should I use for a Funai dvd recorder. I was using DVD-RW discs but on buying new set my recorder says "can not record on this disc" with error message "E4 54040990. Any suggestions before I throw it out the window?

Eh, I kinda lost the manual - but I've looked at the instruction booklet online to no avail.

I've downloaded a random manual for a Funai DVD recorder but it makes no reference to any preferred brand.

However googling the error code you quote shows that the problem is quite common. (Funai sell their own products under several brand names, including Philips, and make electronic products for many other companies. That error code is reported for lots of makes). The recommended advice, in nearly every case, is to try a DVD lens cleaning disc. Unfortunately none of the questioners seem to have posted back, to state whether that advice actually works! (But it would seem to be worth a try anyway).

My own preference, for DVD discs, is to use Tesco's own brand, which seem to be compatible with all disc drives.

According to this site there is a DR-B3737 which seems to use DVD-R or DVD-RW for writing to and CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+R for reading.
