Hi there. I've done the most stupid thing and had a car scrapped a year ago and forgot to inform the dvla about this as it was a really turbulent year filled with money worries and bereavement so my mind was on more pressing issues but things have moved o and I'm currently cleaning out my closet and tying up loose ends i my life which is how i stumbled on this , what is the likely outcome of me telling them now?

If you took it to a registered scrappy then they should have informed the DVLA that it was being scrapped anyhow. did they take part of the V5 from you when you scrapped it?
After a year I would guess they had been informed or would be chasing you for outstanding tax.
We traded a car in at a reputable garage who were supposed to deal with the paperwork. a month after the tax was due the DVLA contacted me and even though I explained the situation I was still liable for the fine. Fortunately the garage paid and dealt with the paperwork.
reputable scrappies will do this for you anyway but all you have to do is tell them when it was scrapped and the date. As long as there is no evidence to the contrary you'll be fine.
