How do you cange a Samsung mobile from 'predictive' to ordinary texting?

It's currently set to predictive and that's too complicated for me.

Have you still got the manual, sandyroe? It'll tell you in there - I had a Samsung before this one, it was easy to change. I can't abide predictive text myself!

Push the star button ,it alternates between predictive and normal,capitals,lowercase and numbers.

On my Samsung, pushing the star button will only change from upper to lower case, CAPS and numbers. To turn T9 predictive text off, you have to press and hold star. Same again to reactivate it.
