I rebuilt an old Epsom 440 printer which runs v. economically on bottle ink from my old desktop machine. Can it be run from a modern laptop which doesn't have a parallel port connection?

As long as you have the drivers ............ I think I'm right in saying that a simple USB to Parallel cable should do you.

It is possible but you have to have the proper software. My understanding is that it is slightly more than just updating drivers. I looked at this some time ago and the software was going to cost about £25 from Maplin.

Thanks for that, I was able to download the driver for the 440 but your comment Scotsman gives me some thinking to do. If it costs £25 I might as well go for a USB printer. Like being in control of the machine and as you know the older ones let you do this and not be rooked for high cost cartridges.
This is the item from Maplin

Thanks again scotman. Following your suggestion I found one via Amazon and banged in an order. It was a bit cheaper than Maplin but looks exactly the same. You have done me a kindness.

Well, that's my reputation ruined.
