I have had to give up on a horse that has been my pride and joy for ages now, he was my first pony, and I even learned how to ride on him, he means such a lot to me, I was personally assigned to him, to groom and exercise him.
I had to give up on him because I couldnt get from one side of yorkshire to the other every day as I am only 14 yrs old.
But I also want to keep an eye on him because the owner does not exercise him properly but he has also had laminitis since he retired from being a show pony.
I dont know how I can solve this as the owner does not want to sell him

Honey, point one is that it is not your horse. If you really really think that he is being mistreated, then rspca could advise, but you may have to take a deep breath and let him go

Wolfgang is right, if you are concerned you can contact either the RSPCA or ILPH (International League for the Protection of Horses), both have area inspection officers.

I have worked with horses for many years (without owning one) and each time you leave a yard, or the horses are sold it is heart breaking, especially if they are your favourite.

It would be best to move on and find a yard closer to home. Your local saddlery may have some recommendations of where you can find work. Maybe finding a show/show jumping yard closeby would be better as you will get more experience and earn some money at the same time.

Sorry Woofgang, totally read your name wrong. ;-)
no problem!

thanks for all your help, I think I might go down to the tack shop near and see if I can find anywhere, I think I'm being a bit stupid about it, but, you know how it is, he was the horse that encouraged me not to be scared of other horses after I watched as a horse bit my friend, it broke the skin and caused it to become infected, and he was also the first horse to throw me off, and I loved every second of me being on the floor shouting to my friend as she came cantering straight past us on her horse.
He is such a great horse but he needs more attention, as the owner only takes the time to just give him a quick whizz round the block.

I have sorted something out about my horse now, I will be going up there twice a month to see how he is doing and to ride him a couple of times as the owner doesnt really exercise him properly
