Well .... what is a stupid (lacking common sense) Q? What appears stupid to you (or me) may not appear that way to the questioner. We've probably all asked a stupid Q at some time and then thought "oh, doh". I presume that most people ask because they genuinely want to know the answer and don't have the resources or knowledge to find it themselves. Another reason is possibly that asking AB becomes like chatting to a friend ..... mostly. There are some Qs on this site that are deliberately 'stupid', 'trick' or 'provocative'. It is also evident that some are deliberately light hearted or meant to be humourous. Most get an answer. Not all the answers are sensible. As for 'the best' site ...... very debateable. There are thousands of sites where one can ask Qs. Most will get their fair share of stupid Qs, and As. Finally; would you like to know the tyre pressures for your car?
I was always told that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask. People don't know stuff becasue they've never been told. You don't know what you don't know - you know? It doesn't necessarily make them stupid. In my opinion (humble as it is) this site is fab cos I can ask all the weird questions that I would never know where or who else to ask.
Does this count as a stupid question Ralph?
Part of the attraction of this site for me is the surrealness and comedic value of it all sometimes - the tongue-in-cheek questions and the deadpan answers and vice versa. Although, having had a quick peek at xyzz's link, think I could get hooked on that one too - very surreal!

Hi Guys Thanks for the answers, but I can't help thinking you've all missed my point; which was in the question rather than the headline. Why do people keep asking for tyre pressures when they must know what they are; or could pick up the phone to the local dealer; or ask someone who drives a similar model? (Look in the supermarket carpark) And those gravy salts: whatever they are, the questions been answered, hasn't it? I don't like to mention Artex.... and, surely, anyone who knows what a sissymaid is would not need to ask how to make themselves into one: they would know that it's not something you should try at home. One thing I like about the Guardian site is the Notes and Queries (my favourite, so far, is "What IS it with some people?") but they seem to be having problems taking in answers. I came here from Miles Mendoza's Website of the Day and, by and large, I like what I've found; at least I'm gonna stay for now. Tyre pressures for a Citroen 2CV are 20/27
How does this site work then??
