computer shut down

when shutting down computer correctly,sometimes it shows windows 98 shutting down,but it never does,i have to shut down from the box,any advice please

There have been issues with Windows 98 shutting down. There are lots of reasons why this might happen, I can only direct you to the Microsoft Knowledge base in the hope you find a solution.

I used to have Windows 98 second edition and this is a known issue. It used to drive me mad, I think I found a patch on the Microsoft site. I think it was this that partly drove me to buy a mac!
it is more than like a program that you have installed. Goto your start button and click on run. Once ther type msconfig and press the enter key. Click on the startup tab and remove the tick one by one (you will need to reboot) and see if it shut down after a 2nd reboot or alternative remove the all and add them one by one until you find the culprit.
