Thanks, Bibblebub- do you have any thoughts on 14a: unknown in cast rushed. I've got flying but think it's the wrong part of speech. The clue should have been 'rushing'
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/flying has it, in its adjectival form, as prenominally meaning hurried (sure they make up some of these words)

Wow, I'm impressed!
as in a 'flying visit'
what do you get if you throw a grand piano down a Chilean coal mine?

A flat minor.
I love The Week crosswords, what a pity they don't issue a crossword book - that would keep me happy for months!
pits = hell, different = other, end in chile = e
hell+other+e
pits = hell; different = other; end in Chile = e;
hell+other+e = hello there

It had me agonising for a good while as well!

Regards
