Firewall and Antivirus query

I use the AVG (paid version) AV and the Zonealarm Firewall (free version). I lefft my computer connected to the internet last night. The PC went into standby. When it cam out of standy, the net was still connected. What id like to know is if my firewall and AV were still active and protecting the computer. Thanks for your help. PM

Simply put, yes, they were running all the time your computer was active so you were protected. I guess when it went to standby the monitor switched off followed by the hard drive but those applications were still in memory and active. Your machine may have gone into hibernation (essentially off) but they would have been the first to be reactivated.
Hey Potatoman, I have a question for you: I use the AVG free antivirus, are there any advantages to using to using the paid version (apart from being morally right)?

j3buttonsw - Thanks for your help - you basically pay for the technical support - to be honest i have never had to use it. Iv just posted a related question about the comparison between norton and AVG and the zonalarm firewall. Maybe you can help on that! Thanks for you help again, friend.
