My step daughter was almost an hour late home tonight. She got told off. so what does she do? Yes, call the bloody police because she is pissed at the fact that she is grounded. I have spent the best part of an hour answering bloody questions about child protection. I now have to make a full report to various bodies because of my job. I really am very wonderfully fluffed off.

Dris, from what you say, you have clearly been there. I thank you for the fact that you don;t make me feel like a bad step parent!!!!!

Naz - if it wasn't for the fact that I would melt any breathalyser bag, I'd be in the car!! (I did hiss under my breath "i'm Fluffing leaving")

Thanks though. xx
I 'was' a step-parent of four ... I feel your pain.
BM -I could write chapter and verse and believe me the easiset thing for me would have had her taken into care but I laid down the gauntlet and for every tantrum/strop/police/violent incident I assured her I was there for the duration and I wasnt taking the easy option and she would back down far before me.She ended up being housed by Social Services at 16-just because she knew how to work the system.I ended up a wreck but i'm glad I stayed the course and never deserted my parental responsibilities. We now get on extremely well -although its all a blur to her -wonder why hmm???
Good Luck -I posted before on here when she started kicking off and I had a great support network so dont be ashamed nor reticent to come on -it does help a great deal.

No wonder we cant get the police when something serious is happening.
13 years old! Ground her till after Xmas Barmaid.
Barmaid, I do read your post even though I don’t respond. You are the most patient step-mum I’ve come across. Another person would leave step-daughter a long time ago to do what ever she wants, and let the dad deal with her and her conundrums. You’re a great parent, and deserve a medal for coping with the rants and tantrums of someone else’s child. Kudos to you!
Can I just add as a parent of a 13 year old.....ground her for longer! I would go for after Xmas as that way she will miss out on all the fun with her mates.
My little darling managed to get her self drunk this summer and has only recently been allowed out and is still only allowed out under supervision! She hated missing all the bonfire and Halloween 'fun'.
I really feel for you!

I wouldn't just ground her. I wouldn't let her out of her room. When my son pulled a similar stunt the only time I let him out of his room was to eat.

I also emptied his room out and left him with a tennis ball and some books.
barmaid as you know i speak as i find hun
