I have noticed places offering pedicures by living fish springing up all over the place. They are advertidsed as being very safe but I read that in the USA some states have banned the use of fish on health grounds. i would be interested in ABers opinions

I'm not sure how they know naomi but this article goes into a little more depth about the experience.

yum yum....think I would prefer a hairy crab on my dead foot skin than these piranhas - at least a hairy crab is tasty and in season at the moment.....
you can get it done in Camden market but no, I haven't!
I was in Selfridges a couple of weeks ago, and you could have a try.

The article says "no more than 4 inches long". The ones in Selfridges were teeny ... no more than an inch, but hundreds of them.
It looks horrible dt, is there a lot of meat in these?

So are you considering getting it done cd0999?
they are pretty good - the Chinese serve them steamed and with a little tart vinegar which really complements the crab meat.

Like maggots these fish feed only on dead skin, whether off human feet or other fish.
they'e being banned only because of distaste, not so much on any real health grounds. The fear is that the same fish would be used on several people and there's a fear of a risk they'd spread a disease.
Frankly they've been used forever and if I had eczema or whatever I'd be straight in there
A friend told me the other day there is one opening in Manchester.

I love a good pedicure but would worry about it being unpleasant for the fish though.

I can't help thinking it would be really tickly as well!

They have these little shrimp things in the aquarium at Alton Towers and say to put your hand in and they love to come and dig under undernails and remove any dirt under them.
