Everton, you've lost me.
..I think it's something to do with getting the sun on your legs - or it could be just a charming reminiscence about his schooldays.
Oh I see, Ludwig. Now why didn't I think of that? Or indeed that? :o)
But wouldn't the risk of frostbitten lower limbs counter any beneficial effect of the sun?
Right first time Ludwig, there is a connection between sunlight on limbs and the reduction of rickets.
Maybe the bright young things that we acclaim ourselves to be is an example of our own conceipt?
/// Not that it anything to do with you , you nosy parker, but I have a little catching up to do with jake ///
I've said this before when you accused me of poking my nose in THIS IS NOT A PRIVATE FORUM - whatever is said on these pages is open to debate with everyone who is registered here, if you want a private conversation with someone, you need to e-mail them.

I have said this beore too, if I believe you are being out of order, I will say so. Live with it.

/// a little catching up /// ?

Ah I see, so your "rudeness only when attacked first" can also apply to something said in the dim and distant past, to be stored in whatever remains of your memory for a future attack, despite non "rude" exchanges in between ?

/// another opportunity to have a go at the Daily Mail ///

You seem to believe that this 'publication' should be immune from criticism.
I've said it before but here goes again:
the Daily Mail has a well earnt reputation for being loaded with twisted facts and provocative headlines deliberately aimed at people that WANT to be angry.
I think you've been out in the sun too long Answerprancer, but look on the bright side, you'll always be able to stop a pig in a passage. ;-))
Just because I'm questioning a dogmatic bitter angry old fascist ? Aw come on !
Short trousers were certainly the norm when I was a lad, until about 12 or 13. Going into long trousers was a rite of passage, making one feel quite grown-up.

/// Just because I'm questioning a dogmatic bitter angry old fascist ? ///

I repeat,

Whereas as with you, you very rude person, I will never catch you up.

But I also add, you are not only rude but also a lying, offensive and aggressive cretin, (I was going to put person, but I thought I might as well speak in your language, the one you understand best)..
/// the Daily Mail has a well earnt reputation for being loaded with twisted facts and provocative headlines deliberately aimed at people that WANT to be angry.///

Now let's edit this a little, shall we?

The Daily Mail has a well earned reputation for being loaded with facts and headlines, deliberately aimed at the apathetic Left, on matters that they would rather the public did not know about. IT IS THIS THAT MAKES THEM VERY ANGRY.
Can't expect answerprancer to reply yet, seeing he was up till 02:55 this morning, getting rather angry.
I agree with Mike, perhaps on a broader basis many of the problems we face today in our own society would/could be reduced by reintroducing that custom.
For girls the transition from childhood to personal rsponsibiity is quite easy to gauge biologically, with boys it's not.
Perhaps having that rite of passage, would make boys think about their behaviour and their role in the world.
Aside from the dubious(?) health benefits of short trousers for growing bones.
The non white population of Southampton is 7.6 percent.

(source http://www.southampto...ton_tcm46-167319.pdf)
Of that number a smaller proportion will be children and out of that a small proportion will have rickets.

The Daily Mail headline is misleading because the report focusses on Southampton (but the headline suggests these are national figures).

By even mentioning the fact that many affected children are from ethnic minorities is doubly silly because not only are their figures negligible in the case of Southampton, but they also serve to confuse their readership.

One poor soul wrote:

"It doesn't help when we have all these foreigner coming over here bringing all their Germs and diseases with them. We got rid of this and TB once"

That's one of the great things about the Daily Mail website - hours of fun reading the Ill-inform cobblers posted by their readers.
That's absolute rubbish AOG !!!
Total lies and outrageous fabrication ...I was up till 4.28.
I can vouch for that, I saw your post AP ;-)

However, what isn't being taken into account (as others haev mentioned) is that different races to have predisposition to certain medical conditions - it's a fact of medical life, it's not racist or immigrant stuff, all easily googles. Asians have a predisposition to diabetes (yes, it's a sweeping statement, but easily checked), black people have greater numbers of sickle cell anaemia sufferers. Rickets etc is to do with diet as much as anything else. Needs to be taken in context.
Rickets has been known to be on the increase for the past 15years almost certainly due to lack of availability of sunlight in the UK.

TB is on the increase...particularly in Asians.

Syphilis and gonorrhoea on the increase in the UK.

We seem to be reverting back to the 40.s and 50.s

Daily Mail headlines were a bit "naughty"
