Hi xyzzy! Well, it would take a lot of bricks to build it, but only ONE to complete it!!!! :-)
define the thickness of the walls.....the dimensions of each brick....the type of bond being used.....are you talking about facing bricks only or including breeze blocks....what about internal walls....what sort of foundations are going to be needed....and anyway what sort of building is twice as high as the width or length?? sounds like a very grand privvy!
Ha Ha theres a company called Acme Brick Co - LOL but in A to your Q's 3456 - ish give or take a few. Im prob out as i counted some brick i can see from the window. Prob wrong.
There are approx 60 bricks/sq metre. So for your building you need about 4460 bricks (for a single 100mm thick skin) less openings for doors/windows etc. If you are going to do the walls in 9" cavity brickwork, you will need twice as many. If you are using blocks for the inner skin, a block is the equivalent to 4 bricks, so divide by 4, but as sft says, we could do with a bit more info!
This is probably a trick question as I suspect it is (well spotted flirty) but if it isn't and you really want an exact answer answer, it's 4124 (without any allowance for waste). That is assuming that the bricks are 215 x 65 with 10mm joints and the dimensions given are from the start of the brickwork (ie not just ground level) and finishes at the very last brick without any openings for doors or windows, and that the wall is built in stretcher bond !/2 brick thick.

There are lots of other considerations as others have mentioned, but since you asked, believe me I know how to work out how many bricks are required for a project!

Well done Flirty. Spot on. - You been monitoring my sources? Or is your smart gene on full power? Sorry to the math workers who were tricked but I worked it out to 4000 as well if its any comfort. :-)
why did you want to know? (apart from the trick answer of course...)
Hi xyzzy! Of course I'm smart! But, then again, I had heard that little teaser before! Got any more? :-)

Merely a trick Darth, I was so pished off with that Splosh Plop noise - that I needed an outlet. Better than quitting I guess.. ;-]
