why is virtually uncooked raw meat (yuk-cannabilism) called rare? -is it because it is rarely asked for?

From the Online Etymology Dictionary:

rare (adj): "undercooked," 1655, variant of M.E. rere, from O.E. hrer "lightly cooked," probably related to hreran "to stir, move." Originally of eggs, not recorded in reference to meat until 1784, and according to OED, in this sense "formerly often regarded as an Americanism, although it was current in many English dialects ...."

I disagree with the "yuk" - personally, I like to hear my steak moo when I cut it.  :)
I agree with Ouisch!! I prefer "Blue" to "Rare".
The definition of "blue"?

"Wipe its arse and show it the grill."

Yum!!
Also "cannabilisim" would mean your eating human flesh!! Defo yuk!
