Dear All,

A friend of mine pointed me to this: http://www.nanowrimo.org

///National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.///

And it looks rather good fun. Would any AnswerBankers be willing to join up and try and write a novel in a month? Let me know and we can have a sticky thread for discussion during November.

All the best,

Spare Ed

ABed- we are required to include about the equivalent of 1 reference per 100 words for our assignments at uni, luckily we actually get to do or own research for our dissertations so only about 3/4 of it will be 'fictional'! As for writing 50,000 words in a month I don't think I could do it!

I've never heard of a 1:100 ratio for reference, although I suppose it does sound about right. What are you studying?

I was following on from Ankou's comments about his being entirely fiction.

For the record mine was a well researched and well crafted piece of nonsense.

Thinking about writing non-fiction? Need a sub-title?

i once wrote a childrens story for a competition, didn't get anywhere though. don't they reckon everyone's got a book in them? after reading 'angelas ashes' i reckon it's true, must be the most badly written book i've ever read and if that can become a best seller then anyone can.
Angela's Ashes? Pah! McCourt had it easy. He didn't know what poverty was...
I'll get my Creative Writing Group on it straightaway! Let's see what they come up with.
sandy, the subject matter is almost immaterial, it's the way it was written i found so appaling, very unprofessional and with basic language skills.
seems like a good idea, any cash involved
Question Author
No cash! Except your own...and that's outgoing rather than incoming.

carolegif - it'd be great if you could get your creative friends on board, I'm sure they'd love it.

All the best,

Early Years Education; we haven't officially been told that ratio but they told us in the first year that we would need around 12-15 references and had essays between 1200 and 1500 words then in the second year it went up to around 20-25 references and had essays between 2000 and 2500 words so it works out to about that; some of my refernces are there just for the sake of it to be honest!
It's all very well knocking out a document on something factual like work - I can do a couple of thousand words at work very easily once I get going - but making a credible work of fiction would be a completely different matter!

Hi Boxtops, you could always take the lead of some of the stranger posters on here. I am certain you can't all be real.

Sophie, very strange you took it like that! I never thought of thinking out a ratio...

So how many people have we got will give this a go?

China
Sandy
Carolegif
Mike-jay
Mosaic
woofgang
and Steve.5 - although he's already finished his....
Does look like fun. I'm trying to do that with my online novel http://mucklefugga.blogspot.com/ but I think it will take longer than a month...
Steve.5 has finished before I've started;
And this has made me feel downhearted.

So I'll give the Ed's novel idea a miss;
And send to the Gnome my love with a kiss.!

Ron.
Ed - are you in the right job - you don't believe we are real and some of us are strange? Your friend pointed you to this - are you a sundial arm or just the gnomon duty today? geddit? ;o)
I wouldn't dare enter this project, bearly abul to stirng tow wrods togetter withhout typso <sihgs>
