When I was a child..

Money was tight. Dad grew loads of veg and would barter with people for eggs meat etc. When a bank holiday was looming he would go to the local club with money in his pocket to buy coal that miners wanted to sell. Does anyone else have these memories?

I thought I had taken part bobbi. At the time of the strike i was living in London. Every week I would send my brother what I could afford. this thread was started, not about the miners strike but about bartering and swopping when none of us had nowt.

No need to be sorry bobbi. I now live in the town of my birth. The death of the mines has devastated this area. Two local chemical works have also closed. Fortunately none of this affects me. Thank god.
