I've always been quite lucky though one of my ex's fathers would call me by his ex's name every now and again. I never really minded as he never meant it but the rest of the family would then get all horrified, poor guy never did it on purpose.

Had some interesting moments with that family. They seemed to assume that because I could speak nicely and was doing a law degree etc... that I went to a private school and I remember a number of comments relating to how people from state schools can't read/write etc... before they found out I was a proud product of the local comp.

There was also a memorable sunday lunch of about 12 of us (he had a large family!) and there being some slagging off of the Welsh before my ex piped up that I could speak some Welsh which prompted the question as to why and my rather conversation stopping point that I'm half Welsh.

well, thank you all for your answers, we'll endeavour to take them on board when we pick them up from the station tomorrow evening. i'm torn between not wanting to embarass my son....but wanting to get my own back for some of things he's said to me in the past!!! (in a gentle, jokey way of course).
lottie, we reckon he's had this girlfriend since may and we only found out a month ago. boys, what are they like?? you show an interest and get accused of being nosey and told to wind your neck in, and if you don't ask and they don't volunteers ANY information except 'yeah, been seeing someone for a couple of months. and you're made to feel like the spanish inquisition should you dare to ask ANYTHING.
but don't we just love them anyway :o) ?
Eth, all I was told was she was blonde and had long hair and 19 (that was four years ago). Six months on I called round to see him and she was there, so he introduced us and then got rid of me as soon as was politely possible. Two weeks later he brought her round without advising us they were coming. I didn't dare ask her anything.

As you say, boys!!

However she is lovely - in fact she is really beautiful externally and internally - so he did well. I get more information now from her about what they are doing than I ever did for him and she and I have regular lunches out together. Girls are just so different.

you're very lucky lottie, with my two sons living 250 miles away, i doubt girly lunches will ever be on the cards :(
main thing is they're happy, just wish either of them would get a move on and make me a grannie while i'm still young and agile enough to enjoy being one!!
I knew a girl ythat was asked "Do you swallow" charming!! but the relationship lasted 3 years nonetheless
Eth. I wasn't a Mum until I was 36 and can't envisage being a granny - son has no intentions of becoming a Dad at all, but possibly may change once he is about 40!! Really never think about being a gran, in fact am happy to remain with no grandchildren. I can't think of anything worse than having to look after them!!
