i am not sure but waqsnt the daggit muffit,hit and killed towards the end of the show.and replaced by one called boxy.

The hazy memory clears - yes buzzsaw, I think you're right - the real dog was definitely killed or left behind and I think I remembered that name and not the name of the robot dog.
