A day out at the races?

Hire a limo and do a pub crawl in it?

A meal out?

I am 50 in October and I would like to keep it quiet thank you very much(?doh!), so I am taking my self off to Cancun for a week to celebrate it in my own way!  On a beach with a mahito and the caribbean sea!
dothawkes that sounds great. I have been fortunate to go to the caribbean several times and couldn't think of anything better.
How about a weekend at a luxury health farm or similar?
We took my Mum to the races for her 70th birthday, she loved it. For her 60th we booked afternoon tea at a big posh hotel in the Lakes.
Or you could do a trip in a hot air balloon, or in a glider, a weekend learning canoeing or rock climbing.  I'm much older than your mother and I've done most of these things (among others) recently and the balloon is on my list for the near future.
