Hi,a few months ago i installed a new bathroom, doing the plumbing myself, we now have a red residue around the plug hole/taps any anywhere else water settles, Ive read that this is caused by iron in the water so was wondering should i have flushed the new pipework with some sort of chemical to remove traces of wirewool?

we never had this residue before and it is not present downstairs

Thanks

Never seen it before.
Did you use all soldered end-feed or yorkshire fittings with copper?
Or all plastic?
You never flush through with anything, no.
Could be the the type of flux you used. Do you get the residue from both hot & cold feeds?
Sounds like your Mrs is dyeing her hair red and not rinsing the basin properly ...

... and she has'nt done it downstairs ..? ;-)
