No sound from my computer

I have changed the monitor as the other one broke and since then I have no sound eg on Skpe/U tube but the microphone and speakers are working fine - well they were til I uninstalled somehting and now its worse - help[ - they can hear me but I cant hear them. What do I have to do ? thanks

What OS are you using? Check your sound settings at the Sound and Hardware in Control Panel. Make sure that the microphone there is the one used for Skype. You can test it and your speakers from within here as well. You may have installed the cables in the wrong place by mistake. If all this fails reinstall your sound card driver.
