My siemens router keeps disconnecting and I rang Orange helpline and they said I need a new power lead.
Even though the power light stays on they are adamant that is the problem saying that it is not sending enough power to the router which causes the disconnection.

Anyone else heard of this problem before?

check your bt line for faults if there's noise on it get bt to check it out if its at there side of the line it will cost nothing
noise on the line WILL disconnect your router not enough digital signal getting through

i also had this problem
p.s. orange help USELESS !
I'd try a different ADSL filter too.
Hi ELVIS, got to agree with deggers on this one, Orange help is useless. I was with them for a number of years and always had to find the answers to problems elsewhere as they always blamed the computer, equipment or something I had done, never them. On a few occasions after phoning them and doing nothing myself to put the fault right the problem disappeared, in other words they sorted out the line but said nothing to me. Since leaving them I have not had any of these problems and had much better service and line speed first from the Post office and now Sky.
So... the power lead is not sending enough power to the router. Implying it has a power limiter in the path somewhere. New one on me, be interested to see that.

Maybe the power lead is coiled and the electrons are getting dizzy ? Try straightening it out.

Thanks for all your replies, I`ve spoken to BT and was told there are no faults on the line and was advised to change the ADSL filter, did that and still the same problem.

Phoned Orange again and they said a new power supply lead was dispatched yesterday and would solve the problem, makes me wonder if this is a common fault with the power leads they sent out with the routers

elvis try to see if there is any noise on the line yourself, i did this test and there was but bt when they tested it on the internet auto test said not
dial 17070 then option 2 this will take you to a "quiet line test" listen hard to see if any noise if there is contact bt and tell them there is

Hi deggers, a new power lead arrived and within 2 minutes I was disconnected again, rang orange and was on the phone for nearly 50 minutes while they tried out all sorts of tests, I was told I would receive a text today of the results of a line test or to ring them this morning which I did.
Went through the same tests again, opened up the router homepage and did a few tests, was told to re-type username and password and hit enter, then after 30 secs all the lights went off on the router, then came back on and actually stayed on and have been since!!
glad its sorted "touch wood" but very much doubt it was the power lead,think this was a bit of flannel from orange

Tell you what, Use the old power lead again and see if the problem comes back. I suspect 50 minutes worth of tests, and changing things at their end without admitting it, had more to do with the cure.

Still, I suppose you got a free power lead.
