Microwave Plate

I placed a cornish pasty onto the glass revolving turntable plate in my microwave earlier on and set the timer for one minute on "high". The cycle went through for around 30 seconds and suddenly the glass turntable shattered into pieces in the microwave. As I was watching through the microwave door, I stopped the cycle immediately.
The pasty was ruined as it had pieces of glass embedded in it. The microwave plate was at normal room temperature before use and was last used to heat a jug of milk around four hours earlier. The plate was also clean and completely dry. The microwave cavity was also clean.
The only reason I can think of is that the glass plate may somehow have developed a small flaw or fracture and exploded from there.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? Any other suggestions as to how it could happen? I've had many microwaves over the years and I've never had a hardened glass microwave plate explode like this.

Haven't got a clue but I set mine on fire.... temperamental bloody things...
how old is microwave can you send a leter of complaint?

Less than six months 4getmenot. It might be an idea.
It should be under warranty then..
I wouldn't hesitate in telling the manufacturer of the appliance what has happened.

As ummmm has indicated.....if it's less than twelve months old, it's still under guarantee.

It must have been quite a frightening experience and the least the manufacturers can do is to supply you with a new glass plate. If you haven't got an address for the manufacturer, contact whomsoever you bought the appliance from; because, in my opinion, they also have a legal liability in matters. Trading Standards Office will advise you a course of action, if you telephone your Local Authority.

If its less than 6 months old take it back to the shop you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

Thank you all very much. I phoned Argos customer services today and was put through to a very sympathetic lady who was very concerned that no one had been injured. I assured her this had not happened. She suggested the microwave might be faulty electronically and said I should return it to my nearest store. I was given a reference number and took it back this afternoon. I chose another mode at the storel and paid the difference.

The service I received was excellent both on the phone and at the store. I'll certainly be buying in Argos again!
Thats good news, dont ever feel bad about complaining, customer services is there for a reason and may be a fault with that model. x
