How can you burn Video CDs on a CD burner that will play on an ordinary DVD machine? I have managed to play them back on the computer, but the DVD player does not recognise them. Is there some special format that I should use?

Try this site. I've found it really helpful in the past. Of course, remember that not all DVD players will recognize VCD. If it's a bit older then chances are it won't work, but most of the newer ones should be fine.

Some DVD players need PBC enabled from a menu or from the remote in order to play VCDs. But VCDs aren't really worth it anymore, are they? DVD writers are very cheap and so are blank DVDs (if you go to a comouter shop or a website like SVP, rather than the high street).
