I have been accused of breaking a car window 3 weeks & the police want to arrest & interview me. They did come to my home, but as my son was present I have agreed to attend at a later date. I did do it, but am wondering is it worth trying to get out of it, I have friends who will back me up stating I was with them when the offence took place, or just admit it? I will be using a solicitor during the interview.

If I were you I would explain the circumstances, not just admit it. You still did it. I hope the person who broke into your house is also under charge.

look at the penalty for owning up...and the punishment if you are caught out, along with the attempt to pervert the cuse of justice charges your friends will face....not worth it...come clean apologise profusely

well i think you should be guided by whether you did it or not! if you didn't do it then try to "get out of it" if you did do it then own up. after all you are a grown up, are you not?
Anyway, perhaps you could consider WHY the police are accusing you - eg they wouldn't have just picked your name out of the air!

Chances are if you are rumbled you'll receive a much heavier sentence.
why did you do it?

Cheers for advice all, have decided NOT to take friends' offer of an alibi.

I did it because the person who owned the car had smashed his way into my house, assualted me & my 13 year old son the day before, I had a few drinks & did it anger.

I may consult a criminal lawyer before I decide what to say in the interview.

If I deny it at the police station & the CPS do take me to court I will plead guilty at the magistrates by the way. I am not planning on lying under oath, only to the police...
For what purpose, exactly?

you're going to lie under caution?
did you report the assault of the previous day before you broke the car window in revenge? The courts frown on people displaying anger as it shows a lack of restraint and common sense.

Went to police station & decided to confess & told the truth & offered to pay for damage, police dealt with it by adult caution & no need to pay for any damage. Even got chicken curry & rice for lunch while in the cells!

Txs for you all your advice.

& yes, the other person who assualted me & my son has been charged with common assault against me, assault against my son & criminal damage to front door. He has been to magistrates court, & pleaded not guilty. Trial set for November
