Hi

How do you clean a hard drive before selling or disposing of a computer My friend has uninstalled programmes but wishes to make sure there is no information hidden anywhere

To completely wipe the hard drive have a look at this link

If you just need to wipe a few files something in the list at this link will probably do the job.

Or you could just format it.
Format is not good enough. A data recovery program can still find stuff you thought had been wiped after format is used.
If it is very sensitive data why not just take out the harddrives and destroy them with a hammer. A new harddrive costs less than �50 and is a good selling point when selling!
