While I was off work, people kept asking me if I was enjoying my enforced "trial early retirement". It was amusing at first, but the joke eventually wore very very thin. Fortunately, as I became more and more mobile again, I was able to get back in the kitchen and do lots of cooking, particularly freezing stuff away, because I knew that, as soon as I went back to work full time, I'd never have the time (or inclination) to do it. I love cooking, but when I first had the accident, I just couldn't be bothered, and had to rely on OH to make our meals (and he was superb I should add!). Anyway, now that I'm back in the kitchen, I seem to have a renewed passion for cooking, so maybe it's been a bit of a blessing in disguise.

Thanks SandyWroe - no I will definitely not drive myself bonkers at work until I feel thoroughly recovered. I have already managed to get out of a few things, at least on a temporary basis. Thanks for your concern. Chox.
l earn things all the time (quite a bit of it on here!). It makes me realise how much I don't know - but then we can't all know it all. I am getting better at crosswords since I started answering them on Q&P, and I still do sudoku if a grid comes my way. My work is enough to keep my brain busy at the moment, but I need to keep it that way!

on the subject of Alzheimers.

This is a poem I love, I see and witness this kind of thing everyday at work.

I frequently read this as a reminder to self.
Also read the Nurses reply underneath please.
well thats just got me crying my eyes out ratter :o(

But thank you, I'm keeping it and will make sure I read it regularly. xx
Thank you Ratter for the poem. It made me cry, especially for the lovely old friend that I had. She said to me one day, that she knew she looked old, but she still felt like a young girl inside, I'm beginning to know how she felt.
Great poem will save itxx
Ronnie Reagan must have kept his mind busy, but it didn't protect him.
He was quite old when he popped his clogs hopkirk..
Ratter - that is lovely an I thank you sincerely for sharing it. It should be made compulsory reading for anyone in a nursing/caring situation. The woman's point of view will be revealing to those who have never fully considered it and the nurse's repsonse shows a compassion which may not be realised by many ♥
this sounds like a nice way of spending your last 30 years - dead:
