Just now at the vets...

I went to the vets just now to order Rover's repeat prescription, and while I was at the counter a woman rushed in, beside herself in tears, with an old Westie in her arms, wrapped in a towel - clearly not very well. I don't know what had happened, whether it was an RTA or an accident or what (and you couldn't ask) but the staff just responded as if it were an ambulance crash team, everyone was suddenly there for her. The woman and the dog went in with the vet, we could still hear crying, and those of us in the reception were somehow stunned and moved. I came home and had a weep - I felt so much for that woman's distress.

No answers needed, I just needed to tell someone.

Awww, poor lady and poor westie.

I'm lucky - with the exception of one vet who told me my cat had FIV and should be put to sleep (I went and got a second opinion and subsequently complained and she didn't have FIV she had renal failure and lived for another 5 wonderful years) I have very good vets. They were so kind when I had to take her for the big injection.

My vets in North Yorkshire were brilliant. They knew all the animals I took were rescued and they only charged me for the medication. Very kind of them.

At the height of my pet owning days I had rescued many cats and dogs most of whom has serious illnesses to overcome. My vet at the time was brilliant and would never charge me for the euthanasias that were sadly inevitable. I had one dog who I thought was at death's door. My vet did tests and laboratory checks on the spot for me after closing time, diagnosed diabetes (in addition to the poor wee mite's other problems), administered daily insulin injections for 12 days, incl Sunday, until the dog was stabilised and then charged me £25 in total. Brilliant vet too and so compassionate.
