What about John Fusciante? He's pretty darn special.
Slash
Difficult job, ranking musicians. I mean, no one would suggest that Mick Ronson was a better guitarist than Erica Clapton but 95% of Eric's output is dull, dull, dull! Just worthy blooz. At least Ronson knew how to make some noise and had killer tunes. And Pete Townsend is conspicuous but his instrument-smashing absence. Also Graham Coxon, Bernard Sumner, Tom Verlaine. John Martyn? There's a whole spectrum of guitarists out there who are so different as to be incomparable!
