How do you find specific file references on the Office 2003 or is there a way to use the old version to find files?

I'm also confused about "file reference". I use Office2003 and as far as I can tell, file amangement hasn't changed [apart from a few colours and frills] since Office97.

Its ok thank you for your interest it turns out its my copy of Excel 2003 that is at fault
