Do you know anyone in one? Whose Idea was it originally and are they really happy or has one of the partners dominated this decision and the other went along with it?

ummm..maybe....end result is the same.
lofty...morning my darling.
No it's not. One is having an affair behind their partners back...the other is getting your end away with your partner knowing.
ummmm...if you say so ;-)
Anyone cheating on their partner is having an 'open' relationship just that the partner doesn't know about it.
Yep....and as you know Sqaddy....I am always right :-)
Agree with you ummmm. I reckon in these so called open relationships one partner actually just puts up with it so as not to lose their partner. That is not the sort of relationship I would ever want. If Mr LL wanted an open relationship I would tell him sling his hook!!
society...exactly.
I thought open relationships were about being open with each other. I still agree with ummmm (who is always right). Having an affair behind your partner's back is not an open relationship, it's a very closed relationship!!
It's an affair....it's not open. Knowing your OH is up to no good but deciding not to confront them is not an open relationship.

An open relationship is one that is decided after discussion and is generally about sexual needs.

Affairs often involve emotions..
Thank you Lottie....that made me laugh.

(it's so untrue...it's just in my head)
I am now going out shopping (how exciting!!!)
Lofty

That is not an open affair....that is called "foolishness"
i was in one, it didn't really work, it was his idea and then he got jealous....
mccluff.......that is IT....there is a fine line between heightened sexual excitement and jealousy. One has to decide whether or not one could cope with the situation, as jealousy is painful, but sexual excitement is...............exciting.
i think he found the "idea" more exciting than the actual reality.
mccluff......LOL.....fantasy is exciting until you do it and then it becomes reality, which isn't so exciting.

But that is no reason to stop doing it.;-)
I have known a couple of people who had this arrangement, no it didnt work, jealousy got in the way and both couples have separated and are no longer having open relationships.
