Why?

Because most of our debt is due to bailing out the banks so that the recession didn't turn into a depression

Something even the Mail's chums in the Tory party have grudgingly accepted they'd have had to do.

It's just propaganda for those who enjoy feeling outraged (and are bad at maths)
