Dianette to treat acne

I have acne, but not very badly. My GP prescribed Dianette about 6 months ago to clear it up, and this has helped. However when I do get a spot it seems to linger for ages and scar (I am quite good and resist the temptation to attack them) taking about 8 months to fade. Any other ideas for preventing spots and increasing the rate of healing? I have also tried sudocream, and tea tree oil which stings and does nothing - everyone else seems to swear by it...

I have fairly clear skin, but my spots are pretty stubborn and hang around for a while too.  I use Germolene Antiseptic Ointment on them, seems to do the trick and my mum always used it when she was young too.  It's good for spots with heads and those horrible red painful ones that just lurk.  The only thing is you can't really wear it during the day, you'd be best sticking it on at night because it's a bit pink and shiney.

My daughter also uses Dianette and as soon as she stops the spots come back with a vengence. Nothing ele seems to work.

As far as healing/ scarring goes if you buy those Vitamin E capsules and split them but rub them into your skin they prevent scarring.  Apparently, Cocoa Butter is also very good for that but i have never tried it.

I don't really know a lot about acne, but if I have a stubborn spot (especially those 'empty' red sore ones) I put a dab of toothpaste on it overnight which tends to dry it out and it clears up quicker.

ask your doc about Zineryt Lot.  I get the occasional break out and this is the only thing that helps - gone overnight.  Only thing is it's made up at chemist and only has a life of 6 weeks (useless after this time) so you really need to keep getting it.  Some months I don't use it at all but I wouldn't be without the back-up!
Teatree oil does nothing for me either!! Dianette is good, although not a cure as you know.  I used whitch doctor, sudocream, toothpaste, think you just have to persevere.  There are much stronger medications but if your acne is not bad they can be very very damaging to your system.

i totally recommend drinking loads of hot water with slices of fresh lemon in.  my skin was a bit ropey for a while and i tried this (drinking about 5 -8 mugs a day) and the results were immediately noticeable.  my husband commented on how good my skin looked after 2 days.

good luck !

Hello Hendrix55, Tried Dianette too! but sadly I had to have something a bit stronger and was prescribed ERYMAX (6 month course) they seem to do the trick! don't suffer when you don't have to. Good luck. xx
