I have several very new Denby ceramic plates, cups, bowls etc. We have noticed that one or two of them have developed small brown marks, seemingly under the surface of them. These cannot be shifted by washing. I think it may be something to do with the dishwasher, even though the items are all stated as being dishwasher safe. My wife thinks it's a defect in the manufacturing. Has anyone else seen this sort of thing and had it checked out?
the marks were not there at purchase about 6 weeks ago.

We wouldn't dare not agree with you dot.  Have you tried putting a strong solution of milton and water in cup and leave stand overnight to see if this has any effect AllYourBase.
