Hi, not sure where to post this so ive put it here.......................... My daughter this morning has been diagnosed with Behcet`s disease and we are now waiting for referals to London hospitals as they know more about the disease than we do here, but what i would like to know is, would it be possible for her to claim any disability allowances when she has an outbreak, as it leaves her bedridden for a few days until medication sets in as she works 16 hrs a week so is losing money when she is unable to go to wor and her rent stiill needs to be paid.. Can anyone help please. Thank you

Get a DLA form or you can do it on line make sure she answers all the questions on the basis of how she is when her condition is at its worst. Only mention some better days in the additional info at the back. She might as well try, if she only works 16 hours per week she may have a low enough income to claim housing benefit and help with healthcare expenses. She should contact the Disability employment advisor via her local Job centre plus, they will be able to point her in the right direction including support if she wants to retrain for more suitable work. She may also be able to talk to a benefits advisor either through her local council or local benefits office. At least she has a diagnosis and hopefully some proper help will be available soon.

One more qestion if you dont mind peoples please. When my daughter has a bad spell like now, this is when she needs help with payments, but how do you think they would manage the payments when majority of the time she is well, would it be a case of ringing them up and telling them she needs help when she is ill, and then when it goes back into remission tell them again, its so confussing. Thank you

Sorry me again. My hubby is due to have an operation on Friday, we have been asked to bring in a high calorie drink, what is one of them. Thank you
No DLA is paid constantly and it is a benefit aimed at supporting people in work, so she could save it and use it when she couldn't work, or just use it to make her life better when she is feeling more able. if she got housing benefit it would be based on her monthly average income, she could prove this with her most recent p60

If her condition seriously impairs her mobility during flareups she may be entitiled to the mobility component of DLA as well and maybe a blue badge or the DEA could arrange payment for taxis so she can get back to work sooner after she starts to feel better if she couldn't drive but could sit down at work, there is also funding available for workplace modifications and things like mobility scooters if she needs them. Again the DEA will know all about this
some of these ''sports drinks'' are high in calories tamirra you know the sort lucozade sports etc etc...

Thank you so much for your help, this is all so new to me. Ive bought red bull, is this ok, or is that a high energy drink and not high calorie? xx
I think they may mean things like Enlive or fortisip which you can get from a chemist, complan or build-up are high calorie milk based drinks best to phone and check with them, can't imagine what a high caffeine drink would do to someone straight after an operation. One of the isotonic sports drinks might be ok though

I don't understand why you should supply this, they have dietetic departments who are responsible for providing that sort of thing
Hi, sorry to hear of your troubles. Try going to Holland and Barrett or the like for a high calorie drink, you want the sort of thing body builders use. Just ask the staff in there.
