Are we only allowed to be patriotic during 'The World Cup' ?

I paid a visit to my local supermarket today, only to see the car-park festooned with St George's flags, and on the road home, enormous similar ones were draped out of windows.

Nothing wrong with that one may say, but the trouble they wasn't the standard St George's flag, no these had been defaced (in my opinion) by the addition of Lions and Crowns, others by the word ENGLAND.

Are they purposely defaced in such a way, so that they won't offend?

It is strange that the Englishman has to wait before his beloved soccer team enters a 'World Cup' tournament before he flies his country's flag with pride.

It is also strange that he can say with pride "I am an English man, and my countries team is better than any other" yes he is allowed to say this without being branded a 'Racist', strange.

Yet when the tournament is over, the flags will disappear, certain councils will ban them being flown, and the word 'ENGLAND' will disappear to be replaced by 'British' or 'Brit', and then to get up and say "the English are better than any other" this is then construed to be racist.

So even if one hates soccer, take this short opportunity to fly your flag, stick your chest out, and tell everyone how great it is to be British, (ups can't get out the habit) ENGLISH.

Our village proudly flew the English flag cross over the village on St Georges day weekend.

/// Civilisation means we do not find our women by simply wandering over the hill, finding a lone woman, clubbing her over the head, and hauling her back to our cave by her hair.///

I think this is an urban myth Andy, there is no proof that this really happened, at least I have never seen any cave paintings depicting this rather savage practice.

I think all this "we are not superior to anyone" stems from those who are still excusing themselves to the rest of the world for 'The British Empire'.

Except for Britain, there is not a country in the world, that does not think it more superior than others.
The English flag is flying high and proud where i live and i feel that this time its not just the football or the cricket that the flags fly for, but at last i feel a sense of a pride of being English gaining ground and people actually starting to question how England has become such a sad and depressing country to live in.
Being ruled by a scottish government for thirteen years has definately left its mark on England and lets hope being English and being proud to be English carry on well after the world cup and the flags keep flying high for our England.
Surely the French can't think they're superior to anyone?
CAS maybe to belgium,,ask Nigel Farrage... ;-)

Looks as if I'll have settle for being a sort of "honorary Englishman" then

the " Cilff " connection is a bit worrying doh
So, how many of these "English patriots" have been turning up at Wootton Bassett for the last several years, for example?
To me it is irrelevant where I was born, I haven't found my home yet. Just because I was born here does not mean to me this is where I belong. English/British by default does not warrant me advertising the fact on my house/car/street. It does not matter what country you are from - why would you feel the need to advertise it to everyone else. I don't.

Greedfly - home is where the heart is - hope you find that elusive place
