I don't know much about this but I don't think a 14 year old is allowed to work in the UK - you usually need a National Insurance (NI) number to work legally and you cannot obtain one until you are 16.

I think you can do stuff like paper-rounds and milk-rounds at your age (but not sure how they get round the not having a NI thing) btmaybe you could be ingenious and think up ways to help out neighbours (for a fee) - car washing, tidying gardens, ironing (I know I'd pay someone to do my ironing!!), walking their dogs, etc. etc.

I worked in the back of a newsagents selling cards, gift wrap etc when I was 14.  I'm now Saturday Manager of it.

There are certain hours you can do however these are set per week and limited to certain days - I think it's 2 hours on a school night and a set maximum on a weekend but not exceeding a certain total.  This changes during the holidays.  Apologies for not being able to recall the exact numbers.  Unfortunately you're likely to start on between 2.50 - 3.50 an hour so if you can get a job where you'll receive tips you'll be onto a good one!  (At least until you hit the minimum wage age (18))

Most large companies won't employ yound people under the age of 16, but there are lots of other opportunities, but be careful that the employer doesn't take advantage.

If you have the time' go to the Library and look up The Employment of Yound Persons Act or a Croners Guide for Employers. It's not too heavy!!

Good Luck
