How can I find work as a same day self employed courier?

As you may have gathered I have still not found work yet (my part-time role in The Spelling Police is not paid very well), and am now considering working as a same day courier. We all know that they say you can earn up to £400 per day doing this, but I have some questions listed below:

Have any of you ABers ever worked as a same day courier?
What is the best firm online to work for, and how do they let you know?
How much can I charge per mile, and is this only one way or both ways?
What type of phone can I use; hopefully one that can send a fax too?
What type of van does the best gas mileage for Astravan type size?
What type of insurance do I need, and how much does it cost?
