Did anybody see the programme tonight where the destinations were Blackpool and Dubai?  I am really interested to know what AB'ers thought, i.e. which holiday they would have enjoyed best and what family they would have rather have spent their holiday with?  Perhaps this ought to be on Film and TV, but it's really the 'people' thing that interests me.

I should have posted this in People and Places, but it's OK here because it also involves parenting.  See you tomorrow evening.
Dubai, the reason being my friend works for S&H tecnical, the starcloth people and he goes out there every few weeks.and he really rates the place.the downside maybe would be if you had young children, there didnt seem to be alot to do for them.I must admit I wasnt keen on either family but they were put in a bit of a stressfull situation.if anythink the women were the ones who were unwilling to try each others holidays and give 100%.but chips everyday ,horrible!!
Blackpool = Sh*t Hole, it is so grubby that the sight even on tv makes me want to break out the rubber gloves and i aint the tidiest/cleanest (stundent) of people. no offence to people who live there they are cool but the council really needs to do something, if they did i would go.

I didn't watch the programme, but when my husband & I were on a Company outing to Blackpool, we thought it was such a dirty, tacky, chavy place, that within a couple of hours of arriving, we got a taxi back to the Hotel, picked our car up & went elsewhere for the rest of the day. I have never been to Dubai to comment on it.

Where do they find all these awful people?  As my mother would have said, tuppence ha'penny looking down on tuppence.

Personally, I wouldn't go to either place, but I thought the Dubai wife was absolutely ghastly.  I can't stand people who are so pretentious and try so hard to be something they are not.  The other wife at least was not pretentious.  I could have stood a week with her in Blackpool far better than 2 hours with Mrs Dubai!!!
I would like to go to cubai, but i don't think i would take my daughter there, she would be so bored, blackpool would be more fun for her! Have to say, the woman who took the 2 families to dubai was a total self obsessed stuck up snob who didn't care about anyone but herself! Suppose i would like both locations, i enjoy blackpool coz i was there a few weeks ago, but for a proper holiday i would like somewhere hot!
To be honest, don't think I would fancy a holiday with either family. I've never been to Dubai, but have had a day trip to Blackpool to see the illuminations - which I have to say were pretty neat, and the kids loved them. Town itself was a tad grotty and seemed to be full to overflowing with drunks, shouting, swearing, fighting and throwing up (suppose that description could be any town/city center on a Sat night)!! eh!
Oh, I wish I'd have seen it now!
What stood out for me was actually how expensive Blackpool must have worked out in the end; eating burgers all day, doing all the rides (even donkeys!) is flippin dear. Much better to have the odd picnic. I couldn't relax in Dubai though and would have got bored. Camping, you can't beat that for fun and value. I sound like me mum. x
I must admit to at first liking the Dubai woman most, however, she soon showed her true colours and was very self centred and intolerant. The Blackpool woman was down to earth and although a tad on the lazy side did what she could on a fairly tight budget with 5 kids. When you have kids of that age, if you don't keep them occupied, anything you want to do is impossible anyway. We accepted the fact that when our children were younger we had holidays that although weren't our dream holidays they were right for us at the time. As the children got older we could have different holidays and we do and no doubt we will carry on changing our holidays to suit our stage in life. As to the choice of the two locations, I must admit to liking certain aspects of both of them, but neither one has everything I would want so neither place does it for me I'm afraid.

I saw the programme & what struck me was how very intolerant they all were about trying each others holidays & way of life. It was only for a short time & they couldn't even seem to make the effort to try anything & got really upset & emotional about ridiculously small things. I just kept thinking GET A LIFE YOU SAD PLANKS!

people are WEIRD!

i wouldnt fancy a holiday with either of them the one that took them to blackpool was common and playing the victim,,and stuffing everyone full of awfull food she had no sense of a healthy diet for anyone including her children ,,and the other one that took everyone to dubai was without a sense of humour so she wasnt much fun to be with,,if i was with either of them i would have made a hasty exit....i think i would also have been stressed if i had that blackpool family with me as their is no way i would have participated in bingo or any other activity and i would have refused to eat their chips with everything,,and i am not a snob i just appreciate decent food and i would rather have sat in a farmers field than either of those destinations with any of them...mullein

The Blackpool family were hardly my ideal of good companions and I also would hate to eat chips all the time and play bingo, etc.  However, I could have tolerated it for a week because at least the family had a sense of fun and enjoyed the company of their children.

The Dubai wife to me was the most insufferable woman I could imagine.  I am not violent but I would like to have smacked her one!

Yes wtahced and found it very good. I think that the people whom whent to Blackpool where living inside their financial Package and boundarys; they cared for the kids and the Holiday was for the Kids. The people whom went to Dubia; well what a woman nothing short of champange and no knickers; to call the other family the munsters and to try a be little them was nothing short of middle class snobbery. I live up noth and work hard for a living and I have to say then she (Dubie) would consider me and my family below her standard and we holiday 3 times a years to varous countrys. I think the people whom went to blackpool stand a foot above them in both family and honesty.

I wouldnt have wanted to go on holiday with either family. If i had to chose it would be Dubai but only if they had kid's club's available. I thought Mrs Dubai was trying to be someone she wasn't, she wasn't willing to give or take and looked down on the other family all the time. Mrs Blackpool needs to learn how to take control of her children and make them behave and calm down but she had the right idea about letting the kid's have a good time but i think she deserve's some time to herself even if its in her room reading a book. When we go on holiday we normally go to somewhere thats familly orientated, ie family plus holiday abroad or in this country where the children can have some fun time at the kids clubs and mum and dad can have some quiet time doing what we like, that way we keep everyone happy.

I am best friends with Hayley (Dubai) daughter Jodie and she loves Dubai. the whole show is absolutely fake and jodie does not go to boarding school. i do not know why they said that! Hayley is a lovely person she is not stuck up at all. the whole show is a lie!
hello, i am friends with 'mrs dubai' daughter and the show portrayed the dubai family to be very stuck up and horrible but in real life, they are nothing like that. i went to dubai with the family last year and it was nothing like that, shown on tv!!! Holiday Showdown is a fake and shows everybody differently!!!
