after watching holiday showdown last night..which was certainly an eye opener as no way can i believe they all shared the same toothbrush even with the dog!! how disgusting was that..it looked lovely at shell island but i cant see why a towel and toothbrush for everyone could not be included..and as for walking around looking at art and statues in florence i cant say that impressed me much either..allthough they had children they didnt seem to get a lot of consideration..i really didnt fancy going on holiday with either family..i think the family that took the others to florence were a bit overbearing the man in particular it was really a holiday for himself..does anyone agree..

I agree with you, I camped in Shell Island only a week ago and go at least once every year, and yes it is beautiful as are the surrounding areas, and I have also been to Florence which again is a beautiful city but after all its horses for courses and that is what the programme encourages by placing families in unfamiliar situations. That toothbrush with the dog incident was disgusting the same as watching him (and especially her, how crass was she?!) prancing around the town pretending to be cultured. I'm just glad the children seemed to have an half decent time.
I have been to Florence and I dont think it is really a childrens' holiday.  I enjoyed 1 or 2 museums and the Cistine Chapel but there is no way I could visit them all day and every day.  The woman of the posh family was a right pain in the posterior. I would find it very easy to slap her.
Let's face it - these families apply to the television companies and no doubt get paid quite handsomely for the opportunity to get a freebie holiday and be seen on television. It is a cynical ploy of the producers to choose families from disparate socio-economic backgrounds because they know that at some point there's going to be a 'bust-up', which, sad to say, makes for compulsive viewing. If either set of parents had any nous, they would have gritted their teeth and at least have pretended to enjoy the respective holidays, if only to salvage a bit of dignity. I must say the children appeared to behave themselves somewhat better than the adults!
We have just returned from a week on Shell Island and watched the program on The Tavern t.v . It portrayed the island in a bad light. It is a wonderful place. We go at least three times a year and wouldnt go anywhere else. The views are spectacular and the campers and staff are so friendly. Its paradise!

i totally agree with you it is the most disgusting thing i have ever seen, there is no way i would allow my children or myself to use a toothbrush after it was used on a dog god know,s what they might catch.the familey was just down right awfull and dirty and smelly by the end of the week.the florance holiday would have been better for the kids if they had a choice where they wanted to go,as it is a wonderful place .as for the men the camping holiday one he was just a complete pratt not even allowing a watch and the florance one he was to bossy and did not think of his kids at all.i think when they see them selve on tv they might have there eyes opened abit
