High revs

Can anyone help with a problem with my VW Polo?  When I bought it the revs were turned up high and this turned out to be because if you turned them down again the car vibrates. It's as though the engine or exhaust is touching some part of the car.  Both of these have been checked by mechanics and nothing was found.  It only does this when the car is standing, as at a junction or lights.

Can anyone help, it's 'driving' me mad.

I would have a look at the engine mounts, one of them could be soft, have the bonnet open, handbrake on securely and in first gear just let the clutch up gently until the car dips at the back a little while someone is watching  the engine for any excess movemnt. Make sure you don't stand at the front of the car just in case the handbrake doesn't hold.
